Why Sharp Gutter Solutions

Thanks for stopping by. Sharp Gutter Solutions is factory certified by Valor as a distributor, seller and installer here in Maryland. We install seamless gutters and Valor gutter guards. Valor comes with a lifetime warranty that's transferable.

Our commitment to excellence

We believe in doing things right the first time. That means working with seasoned gutter and gutter guard installers, using the best materials, and standing behind the work every time.

Our gutters are custom, seamless, .032 gauge aluminum, the sturdiest available for residential use. Most gutter companies use .027 gauge, which is considered the standard. Whenever possible, we recommend a 6" K-style gutter, because it carries a much larger volume of water than a 5" K-style gutter.

We make sure everything around your gutters is in good shape and operational, or we let you know if there are other issues besides the gutters. And Valor gutter guards work better than any other product on the market at making sure the water coming down your roof goes into your gutter.

What goes into your price

Our price includes new gutters, downspouts, tax, labor and cleanup. We also include removing your old gutters and disposing of them properly.

If fascia work turns up, we let you know, with the price, before we do the work.

The factors that determine the price for your gutter installation can include the total length of your gutters and downspouts, the number of corners, whether your home is one, two or three stories, and whether overflow and backflow of water have damaged anything in the area around your gutters, including fascia, soffits and decking.

Our standard gutters

We also have half round and copper gutters, and gutter guards in copper.

A typical example of repair work from your gutters getting clogged and causing overflow and backflow

Water takes the path of least resistance. When gutters fill with debris, the water begins to back up, and if it has nowhere to go, it will overflow over the gutters. It will also backflow behind the gutter, which is why in many cases you will see debris coming down behind the gutter on the fascia board. That usually means your fascia board is getting wet on a regular basis.

When the fascia gets wet, the roof trusses, the decking and your soffits can get wet too. In some cases, water that backflows can run down the inside of the outside wall and into your basement. That can confuse people who have had a dry basement for a long time and suddenly find moisture in it. Sometimes you can find discoloration in the ceilings of rooms near an outside wall, from water that travels up the decking and drips down onto the insulation and past it.

Water in the decking can also condense on the inside of the roof when temperatures change, effectively raining in the attic. Over time, that affects your insulation, lowering it to the level you see in these photos. And when wood gets wet and dries over and over, it starts to soften and go bad.

This is what can happen when your gutters aren't kept clean on a regular basis, or you don't have a gutter guard that works properly.

Even though these gutters were cleaned every two months, they still filled with debris. What should have been a roof replacement became a full roof renovation, with decking, fascia, soffits, gutters and attic insulation.

Here is the work this particular home needed:

Cleaning on a schedule wasn't enough. Keeping debris out is the whole job.

The Valor story

Valor was created to solve the problems with the gutter guards on the market. Its makers recognized many of the problems created by the two main types of gutter guards: micro mesh, and the older reverse curve type that relies on surface tension. Valor gutter guards are third generation technology.

The patented S curve is built right into the micro mesh of Valor gutter guards and is attached permanently at the factory. It slows the water down, even massive amounts of it, and the louvers are designed to pull the water into the gutter.

When I was invited into the gutter guard industry, I declined. I was a home inspector for one of the two largest pest control companies in the country, and I've been in over 1,000 attics and crawl spaces. I've seen nests in gutters made by birds, rodents, bees and wasps, and an open gutter with debris and water sitting in it is an excellent breeding ground for mosquitoes. I hadn't seen a gutter guard that worked well enough to justify the expense, and I believed cleaning gutters on a regular basis was the best way to go.

Then I was asked to take a look at Valor. I did my homework, a deep dive, and that's when I found the Gutter Protection Review. When I saw GPR had changed the way they did their testing and reviews, I knew Valor had hit a home run. When you understand the technology and watch it in action, you'll understand why it's the #1 gutter guard.
